Resident Evil 7- Biohazard Review-

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is regarded as a huge turning point in the RE franchise to this day. Even four years after its initial release, the highly-anticipated horror-survival game Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is still well-accepted by gamers worldwide, even after RE 8’s release. The game features never-before-seen gameplay and creatures – making RE7 the ultimate first-person horror survival game.

If you start browsing Resident Evil 7 Biohazard reviews, you will discover that this game is highly praised for its improvement, storyline, and elements.

What separates this game from the earlier releases is the story and the involved protagonists. You’ll experience a new and improved storyline and get familiar with Ethan Winters and his race against time to save his beloved wife Mia Winters from the so-called nuclear family – the Bakers.

The first-person experience is new to the RE franchise, and we’ll get you familiar with all of its gameplay features, storyline, and compatibility for Virtual Reality for PlayStation and more.

Let’s jump into it!

What to Expect From Resident Evil 7: Biohazard?

Unlike the already known Resident Evil games, RE7 Biohazard brings something new to the table. The developers have added plenty of new features, such as protagonists, storyline, and monsters. Besides the regular updates of the game, our Biohazard 7 review will cover other aspects that you can expect from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. One of the best things in the game is the fantastic horror-like atmosphere.

To fully experience RE7, make sure to tune your sound and graphic settings to the maximum. Unlike previous games, Biohazard brings a new kind of terror! You can expect the unexpected when it comes to encountering creatures and puzzles throughout the whole game. You’ll see some BOW’s (bio-organic weapons) never before seen in a RE game, new weapons, and whatnot.

Perhaps the best thing you can expect from Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is the VR experience, which we will discuss later in the article.

New Characters

The game begins with the main character Ethan Winters as he arrives in Dulvey, Louisiana, in search of his missing wife, Mia Winters. The game is set in 2017, as Ethan receives a message from Mia, who went missing back in 2014, to come and find her. Ethan, unlike some familiar Resident Evil characters, is a civilian with no experience in encountering the brutal Umbrella’s BOW’s.

Ethan_Winters

Besides Ethan and Mia, Zoe is another new character in the game – the woman who aids Ethan in his search across the cursed land of Dulvey. Zoe offers assistance to Ethan, but it’s short-lived as an infected Mia cuts off Ethan’s arm before the property residents, the Baker family, capture him.

The Baker family is one of the antagonists of the game. The family is mutated by a strange virus only known as ‘The Mold.’ The family includes Jack, as the owner of the property, his son Lucas, his wife Marguerite, and his uninfected daughter Zoe. As you progress, you’ll discover the ‘real’ enemy in the game – a BOW child named Eveline – controlling the Bakers with her thoughts.

List of Features in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Next on our RE7 review is the list of available features that have never been included in any Resident Evil game in the past. This will consist of weapons, gameplay changes, and graphic improvements:

  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is the first RE game with a first-person perspective. All previous games were available in third-person, and any Resident Evil sequel is expected to be in first-person for a better gaming experience.
  • Unlike other games, RE7 will require you to explore a large portion of the territory, searching for clues, weapons, and cures for the viruses.
  • For the first time ever, a Resident Evil game is compatible with virtual reality, but only for PlayStation 4.
  • A dark and terrifying atmosphere has been added to the game for the best horror game experience. The graphics underwent severe changes for a more horror-like atmosphere.
  • A variety of new firearms have been added to the game to increase the arsenal of defensive weapons that Ethan can find and use across the Baker Estate.
  • Brand new puzzles are included as part of the investigation throughout the game. Puzzles will reveal useful information about the storyline and even reward Ethan with something he can use against his enemies.

Enter the World of Resident Evil Using Virtual Reality

Resident Evil: Biohazard is the first RE game compatible with virtual reality devices for PlayStation consoles. Since this is a horror survival game, you can experience something you’ve never seen before while playing video games. By using virtual reality goggles, you will enter the world of Resident Evil and see the true horror that lies within. The VR version of RE Biohazard works only with VR goggles from PlayStation 4, and soon – PS5.

If you wish to play RE7 with a VR headset – you should consider what you’re getting into. As VR developers strive to bring you the closest to real atmosphere possible,  expect to witness terrifying creatures and hectic sounds while playing! Furthermore, be ready for hundreds of jump-scare scenarios that will send shivers down your spine.

If you’ve ever played the game on PC or console before – you’ll have a fun time roaming the cursed lands owned by the Baker family and revealing the terrible truth on a VR headset!

Pros & Cons of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Even though Resident Evil 7 is a popular and highly praised horror game, it has its pros and cons. Although the pros overcome the cons by a mile, there are several disadvantages you should be aware of.

Below, we have a list of Resident Evil’s biggest pros and cons: Biohazard, with a brief explanation of all of them.

Excellent Horror Atmosphere

For the first time in the RE franchise, Capcon added a terrifying horror atmosphere from the beginning to the end of the game. The sounds and the graphics of the game were entirely updated to deliver a new kind of horror experience to the screen.

The entire environment is covered in dark and yellow skies, destroyed property, and horrific mutants roaming around. The sounds are creepy enough to keep you scared throughout the entire game, and they’re in place for you to feel the absolute horror of the Resident Evil world.

Annoying Boss Battles

Boss battles tend to be exciting and intense, but that’s not the case with RE7 Biohazard. By playing this game ourselves, we discovered that all boss battles are kind of annoying.

As soon as a boss freaks you out, you’ll need to run and shoot him while doing so. The annoying segment of boss encounters is the constant running and hiding from it while you look for a way to kill it. Even when you reach the ultimate boss, the mutant child Eveline, you’re required to find a cure and inject it with it at the end.

Slow Movement

The Resident Evil franchise is not known for its fast-paced games. Biohazard is just another solid proof of that, and it’s something you will find in every Resident Evil 7 review. The character movement in RE7 is slow, and Ethan can’t run, but that’s mainly because all game antagonists are also slow and can rarely catch you if you move correctly.

Since most of the gameplay takes place at the Bakers Estate, which is created as a maze – you must move slowly and avoid getting lost. The game’s slow movements can appear annoying for most players, but there’s a reason why Capcom made this one slow-paced.

Plenty of Jump-Scare Moments

If you’re a fan of horror movies, then jump-scare scenes are nothing new for you. Jumpscare scenes are expected from all horror games, but Resident Evil 7 Biohazard didn’t know when to stop. As you progress throughout the game, be prepared to encounter many of these scenes that can freak you out at any second. Since the scenario is set on a remote compound filled with horrific elements, you can never know where to expect a monster or even a living person!

New Storyline

According to most PS4 Resident Evil Biohazard reviews around, the storyline is the best addition to the series. Unlike other simple storylines down the road from Capcom on Resident Evil, the seventh installment is entirely something else. The whole storyline is filled with riddles and danger lurking at every corner on the map!

The story itself is a complex one, and as you progress through the game and reach the end, you’ll discover many secrets. Speaking of the end, the story culminates with the death of Eveline, who turns out to be something you can’t guess – and it will blow your mind!

Before the conclusion of the game, the story reveals that the Umbrella Corporation has rebranded itself as a mercenary group when Chris Redfield arrives to rescue both Mia and Ethan from the Baker compound in Dulvey. The reappearance of one of the main antagonists in the Resident Evil franchise was highly praised by gamers worldwide!

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in 2021

Four years have passed since Resident Evil 7 hit the stores worldwide. Now, in 2021, the game still ranks among the most popular horror survival games of all time.

Despite the lack of an online experience, the single-player campaign is enough to freak you out like never before. So far, the game has been praised by thousands of gamers worldwide because of the new things it brought to the table. Unlike the previous installments, RE7 is a complex game with hundreds of things to do while roaming the area.

It’s expected that in the following years, even with the release of Resident Evil: Village, Biohazard will remain one of the best-selling games from Capcom’s horror series, and we can all see why!

Final Verdict

Wrapping up this Resident Evil 7 ps4 review, we can say that RE Biohazard is a tremendous horror game that you should try out. The game keeps the usual RE spooky elements, delivering a breathtaking horror experience like never before. While playing the game, you’ll encounter several secrets tied to the original Umbrella Corporation and see where that leads at the end.

Whether you play it on console, VR, or PC – Biohazard is the ultimate horror experience that amazed thousands of gamers worldwide.

We hope that our RE7 review helped you make up your decision, and we strongly encourage you to give this game a go! However, make sure to play or at least watch some of their older games on YouTube to get familiar with the story and the Umbrella Corporation. And, of course – don’t engage with this game if you can’t tolerate jump-scares and spooky situations.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard FAQ

Of course, it is. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is available for download on the PlayStation Store for PS4, and soon, for PS5.

Resident Evil Biohazard does not require strong performance to run on a PC. You’ll need 8GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX760 or Radeon R7 260x, and at least an Intel Core i5 processor.

Unfortunately no, you can’t. All Resident Evil games are designed to be single-player games only, but you can expect an online feature in the upcoming sequels.
